Ras Al Khor Dubai takes its name from the Arabic for “head of the creek”. The name describes the spot where Dubai Creek ends in a shallow lagoon surrounded by mangroves, reed beds and salt flats. Stay on marked paths around the wetland and never enter fenced or construction areas while the development is under way. Do not feed wildlife, keep noise low near the hides and take all litter with you. At the market, watch your step on wet floors, look out for trolleys and forklifts, and keep valuables secure.

Ras Al Khor Dubai Sanctuary Development Project
The AED 650 million project will turn Ras Al Khor into a world class eco tourism destination. Phase one increases water bodies by 144 percent to 74 hectares, adds 10 hectares of mudflats and grows mangrove coverage from 40 to 65 hectares, with new habitats such as a mangrove lake and reed ponds.
A later phase will add a visitor centre, birdwatching towers, restaurants, kiosks, education centres, 5.6 km of cycling tracks and 3 km of walking trails. Dubai Municipality expects visitor numbers to grow to between 250,000 and 300,000 a year.
