Beaches in Umm Al Quwain: Best Spots, Resorts and Tips

Beaches in Umm Al Quwain are some of the calmest and least crowded on the UAE coast, about 45 to 60 minutes by car from Dubai. The best spots are the free Umm Al Quwain New Corniche, Mangrove Beach, Kite Beach, Al Bahr Beach. Nearby, Al Sinniyah Island and Khor Al Beidah are natural mangrove and bird areas, not public beaches, so you see them on a guided boat or kayak tour.

Expect shallow, gentle Gulf water, green mangroves, birdlife and wide sunsets, plus beachfront resorts such as Vida Beach Resort Umm Al Quwain, Palma Beach Resort and Flamingo Beach Resort for day visits or overnight stays. The best time to go is November to March. This guide was updated in October 2026.

Best beaches in Umm Al Quwain at a glance

Umm Al Quwain is the least crowded emirate on the UAE coast, so most of its beaches stay quiet even on weekends. What separates them is access and facilities: some are free and open all day, some are paid beach clubs, and the nature areas can only be seen on a tour. Here is how they compare.

Al Bahr Beach

Al Bahr Beach is one of the newest beaches in Umm Al Quwain, launched in 2025. It has open air cabana style seating, cafes and restaurants, and the seasonal Loop Lounge with shaded seating and beach barbecues in the cooler months. Entry to the lounge areas is paid and rates change by season, while the beach itself suits a relaxed family day. For location, timings and Loop Lounge details, read our full guide to Al Bahr Beach Front.

Swimming safety: most public beaches here have no lifeguard. Swim only in daylight, never swim alone, keep children close in shallow water, follow local beach signs, and stay away from kitesurfing zones.

Public beaches in Umm Al Quwain

If you want a free beach day, these are the public beaches in Umm Al Quwain worth knowing. Facilities are simpler than in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, so bring water, snacks, towels and shade if you plan to stay for a few hours.

Umm Al Quwain New Corniche

The New Corniche is the easiest free beach in the city. It runs along Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street in Old Umm Al Quwain and is open 24 hours, with calm, shallow water that suits young children.

  • Walking, jogging and cycling paths with sea views
  • Children’s play area and space for picnics
  • Kayaking in the calm lagoon water
  • Cafes and restaurants close by, plus the متحف أم القيوين a short walk inland
  • The second phase of Al Khor Waterfront, opened in 2025, adds kayak hire, a running track, an outdoor gym, a playground and skate ramps

شاطئ المانجروف

شاطئ مانغروف أم القيوين sits at Khor Al Yeefrah and opened to the public in 2020 as the first beach of its kind in the emirate. Soft sand meets green mangroves, and the water is calm enough for paddling and kayaking.

  • Swings, shaded areas and a barbecue spot near the mini mangroves
  • Popular for family picnics and overnight camping
  • Some public facilities are still being developed, so bring food, water and a first aid kit
  • About 10 minutes from Kite Beach, so it is easy to combine both

Kite Beach and Kitesurf Beach Center

شاطئ طائرة ورقية is the wind sport beach of Umm Al Quwain, on Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla Road. It is home to مركز شاطئ ركوب الأمواج الشراعي, a beachfront kitesurfing school, beach club and camping site that is open daily from 7am to 10pm.

  • Certified kitesurfing lessons, kite and kayak rentals and guided mangrove tours
  • Thatched beach huts with private showers, plus tent camping
  • Beach restaurant and cafe and an open air wooden Tarzan Gym
  • Pet friendly, with dogs on a leash and a pet declaration form
  • Fridays are Ladies Day

This beach is not for you if you want flat, quiet water for toddlers, because kite lines and fast boards share the water. The windiest and most popular season is November to April. Entry is paid and prices change, so check the latest rates with us before you go.

Other places to visit: Al Sinniyah Island and Khor Al Beidah

These two wetland and lagoon areas are not public beaches. They are natural mangrove and bird habitats with no beach facilities, so the best way to enjoy them is on a guided boat or kayak tour.

جزيرة السنية is the best known of the emirate’s islands, and the بوابة حكومة الإمارات العربية المتحدة lists it alongside smaller islands such as Jazirat Al Ghalla and Al Qaram. The island is uninhabited and is recognised as a Key Biodiversity Area, home to one of the largest Socotra cormorant colonies in the world. It is not a public beach: there is no road access, no lifeguards and no facilities, and visitors should not land near nesting birds. The best way to enjoy it is from the water on a licensed boat or kayak tour.

  • Birdwatching, including migratory birds in the winter months
  • Calm mangrove channels around the island that suit beginner kayakers on a guided tour
  • Photography with almost no crowds
  • Part of the island is being developed as Sobha Siniya Island, so access rules may change

South of the city, خور البيضاء is a wide mangrove wetland and Important Bird Area. It is not a public beach and has no facilities, and access is difficult without a guide, so most visitors explore it on a guided kayak tour. For both spots, the tide decides your trip: go at high tide, because low water can leave channels too shallow to paddle.

How to get to the beaches in Umm Al Quwain from Dubai

The drive from Dubai takes about 45 to 60 minutes via Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) or Emirates Road (E611), depending on traffic and your starting point. There is no metro or direct bus to the beaches, so a car, taxi or booked transfer is the practical choice. Make a full day of it by adding the museum, the aqua park or other أشياء يمكنك القيام بها في أم القيوين.

Things to know before visiting beaches in Umm Al Quwain

  • Public beaches are alcohol free, and drinking in public is not allowed in the UAE. Licensed resorts follow their own rules
  • Wear swimwear on the beach and in the water only, and cover up when you walk to cafes, shops or the car park
  • Bring your own water, snacks, sunscreen and shade, because most public beaches have few facilities
  • Check the tide before kayaking or boat trips, as low water can block the mangrove channels
  • Do not disturb birds, crabs or mangrove trees, and take all your rubbish home
  • Pets are welcome at Kitesurf Beach Center on a leash, but check the rules before bringing them to other beaches

How to choose your Umm Al Quwain beach

The right beach depends on three things: whether you have kids, what you want to do in the water, and how many facilities you need.

  • الأطفال الصغار: Umm Al Quwain New Corniche or Al Bahr Beach for shallow water, shade and cafes
  • Nature and quiet: Mangrove Beach, or a guided boat tour around Al Sinniyah Island
  • رياضات مائيه: Kite Beach for kitesurfing, or a guided kayak tour of Khor Al Beidah
  • Comfort and pools: a resort day pass or an overnight stay
  • تخييم: Mangrove Beach or Kitesurf Beach Center

You can easily combine two spots in one day, for example a morning kayak at the mangroves and a sunset walk on the corniche, because they are a short drive apart.
