What Is the Palm Jumeirah Monorail?

The Palm Monorail opened on 30 April 2009 and was the first monorail in the Middle East. It runs on a raised guideway down the centre of the trunk, so it never gets caught in road traffic. The trains are fully automated with no driver, and attendants are on hand if you need help. It is the only public transport line that runs the length of Palm Jumeirah itself.

Most visitors ride it for two reasons: to reach Atlantis The Palm and Aquaventure Waterpark quickly, and to enjoy the views of the fronds, beachfront villas and Dubai Marina skyline from above. For more ideas on the island, read our guide to Palm Jumeirah Island in Dubai.

Where Is the Palm Jumeirah Monorail Located?

The Palm Jumeirah Monorail runs along the central trunk of Palm Jumeirah, the palm shaped island off the Dubai coast between Dubai Marina and Al Sufouh. The line starts at Palm Gateway station, at the entrance to the island just off Sheikh Zayed Road, and ends at Atlantis Aquaventure station on the outer crescent, right by the entrance to Aquaventure Waterpark and Atlantis The Palm.

Palm Gateway is the easiest place to board. It sits beside the Palm Jumeirah stop of the Dubai Tram, so you can arrive by Metro and Tram, and it has over 1,600 parking spaces. Monorail riders get the first 3 hours of parking free once their ticket is validated, after which parking costs AED 10 per hour. If you are coming by taxi, ask for “Palm Monorail Gateway Station” or open Palm Gateway station on Google Maps.

  • Start point: Palm Gateway station, entrance of Palm Jumeirah
  • End point: Atlantis Aquaventure station, the crescent
  • Nearest Metro: DMCC or Sobha Realty on the Red Line, then the Dubai Tram
  • Nearby areas: Dubai Marina, JBR, Dubai Media City and Al Sufouh

Palm Jumeirah Monorail Stations

The line currently has four stations, from the mainland end out to the crescent:

How to Reach the Palm Monorail by Metro and Tram

There is no direct Metro link. Take the Dubai Metro Red Line to DMCC or Sobha Realty station, switch to the Dubai Tram, and ride to the Palm Jumeirah tram stop. From there it is a short walk to Palm Gateway station. With a Nol card you can use the Metro, Tram and monorail on the same card. Want to explore more by public transport? See our list of Dubai tourist places near the Metro.

Is the Palm Jumeirah Monorail Worth It?

Yes, especially on a first visit to Dubai. The ride is short and inexpensive, and it gives you views you cannot get from the road.

  • Elevated views over the fronds, the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai Marina skyline
  • No road traffic on the trunk, which helps on busy weekends
  • Family friendly, with free travel for children under 5
  • Drops you right at Atlantis The Palm and Aquaventure Waterpark

Tips for Riding the Palm Monorail

  • Book your ticket online before you go to save time at busy periods.
  • Ride around sunset for the best light on the skyline, then see more sunset spots in Dubai.
  • Stop at Palm Jumeirah Mall station for The View at The Palm.
  • Check service updates before travelling, as the line closed for maintenance for six months in early 2026.
