UAE Visa for Filipinos: New Visa on Arrival Rules Explained

As of 25 June 2026, the UAE opened its visa on arrival facility to Filipino passport holders for the first time, alongside five other nationalities. For a community of an estimated 660,000 Filipinos already living and working across the UAE, this is a big shift, and for those still planning their first trip, it could mean skipping the wait for a visa altogether.

The Big News: UAE Visa on Arrival Now Includes Filipinos

On 25 June 2026, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, along with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Filipino passport holders can now receive a visa on arrival, provided they already hold a valid residence permit from one of the following countries:

If you do not currently hold a residence permit in any of these countries, this new facility will not apply to you yet, and you will still need to arrange a standard UAE tourist visa before you fly, the same way Filipino travellers always have. You will not be asked for a bank statement to apply for the UAE visa itself. UAE immigration officers can, at their discretion, ask arriving travellers to show proof of funds on arrival, so it is worth carrying a recent bank statement or equivalent with you when you travel, even though it is not part of the application we submit for you.

Before You Fly: Your Philippine Immigration Departure Checklist

Before you even reach UAE immigration, you need to clear departure formalities on the Philippine side, and this is where many first time travellers get caught off guard. It happens when an immigration officer is not satisfied that your trip is genuine tourism, and it can happen even to travellers holding a valid visa and a confirmed ticket. Here is exactly what to prepare so that does not happen to you.

1. E-Travel registration. All travellers leaving or entering the Philippines must register through the official E-Travel platform at etravel.gov.ph before their flight. Do this a few days ahead, not at the airport counter.

2. Passport with at least six months validity. Bring the original, not a photocopy.

3. Your approved UAE visa or visa on arrival eligibility document. If you are travelling on the new visa on arrival route, carry a printed copy of your qualifying residence permit, since immigration officers will want to see it, not just your passport.

4. Confirmed round trip or onward flight ticket. A one way ticket with no onward plan is one of the most common reasons for a closer look at the counter.

7. Proof of ties to the Philippines. This is one of the most important and most overlooked items. Immigration officers want reassurance that you have a reason to come home, such as a certificate of employment with approved leave dates, a business permit if you are self employed, or school enrolment proof if you are a student. Travelling with no clear employment or business tie is one of the biggest red flags officers look for, since it raises the question of whether you plan to return.

8. Proof of relationship, if you are visiting a sponsor or relative abroad. If a family member or friend based in the UAE is hosting you, bring photos together, messages, or other evidence of an existing relationship, alongside their invitation letter. Immigration officers are specifically trained to look more closely at trips to meet someone met only online or very recently, given the risk of trafficking, so genuine, well documented relationships help your case considerably.

9. A consistent, simple story. Be ready to explain your destination, purpose, length of stay, and who you are meeting, briefly and truthfully. Officers compare your answers against your documents, and inconsistencies between what you say and what you carry are what typically trigger a longer secondary interview.

10. Arrive three to four hours before your flight. This gives you enough buffer for check in plus any additional questions at the immigration counter, without the pressure of a closing gate.

A 60 day visa can be extended twice, also in 30 day increments.
