UAE Visa Types and Validity for Indian Nationals

Indian passport holders travelling to the UAE for tourism, business or a family visit can choose from several visa types depending on how long they plan to stay in the country and how many times they need to enter.

Short stay and transit visas

• 48 hour transit visa, AED 250, for travellers passing through Dubai on their way to another destination
• 96 hour transit visa, AED 360, for a slightly longer stopover

Standard tourist visas, single entry

Each visa type has a fixed validity period counted from the date of issue, not the date you actually enter the country, so it is worth timing your application close to your travel date rather than applying too far in advance.

UAE Visa on Arrival for Indian Passport Holders

Since January 2024, eligible Indian nationals no longer need to apply for a UAE visa in advance and can instead receive one on arrival.

Who qualifies

You can use the visa on arrival option if you hold a valid Indian passport and one of the following, each with at least six months validity remaining:

• A valid United States visa or a US Green Card
• A valid UK visa, including a digital e-Visa, or a UK residence permit
• A valid visa issued by an EU member state, or an EU residence permit
• A residence permit issued by Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea or Singapore

If you hold a standard visitor visa for Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea or Singapore rather than a residence permit, you will not qualify for visa on arrival through that document, so it is worth checking which one you hold before travelling.

Present your Indian passport along with one of the eligible documents above at UAE immigration. Pay the USD 63 fee and you will receive a 14 day single entry visa on the spot, without needing to submit an online application beforehand.

Benefits and limitations

The visa on arrival is convenient for last minute or unplanned trips since there is no waiting period. It is single entry only, valid for 14 days, and cannot be extended. If your trip needs a longer stay or multiple entries, apply for a standard tourist visa in advance rather than relying on visa on arrival.

Documents Required for Indian Nationals

Primary documents

• Indian passport valid for at least six months from your date of entry, with at least two blank pages
• A recent passport size photograph with a white background

Supporting documents

• Hotel booking confirmation or accommodation proof, such as a tenancy contract or invitation letter if staying with family
• Confirmed return or onward flight ticket

You do not need to submit a bank statement to apply for the visa itself. UAE immigration officers can, at their discretion, ask arriving travellers to show proof of funds on arrival, so it is worth carrying a recent bank statement or equivalent with you when you travel, even though it is not part of the application.

UAE Visa Processing Time

Most standard tourist visa applications for Indian nationals are processed within 24 to 48 hours once all documents are submitted correctly. Incomplete documentation, unclear photographs or mismatched passport details are the most common reasons an application takes longer than expected, so it helps to have every document ready before you submit.

Visa Extension and Renewal Options

A 30 day tourist visa can be extended three times, in 30 day increments, without needing to exit the UAE. A 60 day tourist visa can be extended twice, in 30 day increments, also without needing to exit. To extend, you will need your original passport, a passport size photo, proof of accommodation and your return ticket. We can handle the extension application on your behalf so you do not need to visit an immigration office in person.

Once you have used up the maximum number of extensions for your visa type, you will need to exit the UAE and re enter on a fresh visa. This can be done through an airport to airport visa change, commonly called A2A, or by taking one of the bus routes out of the country and back in, such as the Dubai to Oman route, before applying again.
