Azerbaijan Visa for UAE Residents
Planning a trip to Baku from the UAE and wondering about the paperwork? For an Azerbaijan visa, UAE residents fall into three different groups, and the route you take depends on your passport, not simply on the fact that you live in the UAE. Some travellers need no visa at all, many can collect a visa on arrival at the airport in Baku, and others apply online for the ASAN electronic visa before they fly.
At White Sky Travel and Tourism in Dubai we confirm which route applies to your passport, prepare and check your documents, and let you spread the cost with Tabby, Tamara or your UAE credit card. Message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm your exact requirement in minutes.
Do UAE residents need a visa for Azerbaijan?
It depends on the passport you hold. Azerbaijan sets its entry rules by nationality, so an Emirati citizen, an Indian national and a British national who all live in Dubai can face three different processes. Here is the quick version.
| Your situation | Your route | How long you can stay |
|---|---|---|
| UAE citizen (Emirati passport) | No visa needed | Up to 90 days |
| UAE resident, residence visa valid 6+ months (most nationalities) | Visa on arrival at a Baku airport | Up to 30 days |
| UAE resident, residence visa under 6 months, or applying from abroad | Apply online for the ASAN electronic visa | Up to 30 days |
| Syrian, Iraqi or Afghan citizens (even as UAE residents) | Apply through the Azerbaijan embassy | Varies |
The sections below explain each route, the cost, and what changes for the most common nationalities among UAE residents.

UAE citizens travel to Azerbaijan visa free
If you hold an ordinary United Arab Emirates passport, you do not need a visa for Azerbaijan. Emirati citizens can enter and stay for up to 90 days under the mutual visa waiver that both countries agreed in July 2023. You travel with a passport that is valid for your trip, and that is all. This route applies only to UAE nationals, not to expatriate residents.
Visa on arrival in Azerbaijan for UAE residents
Most expatriates living in the UAE do not need to apply in advance. If you hold a valid UAE residence visa, you can collect a single entry visa on arrival at any international airport in Azerbaijan and stay for up to 30 days. The main conditions are simple:
- Your UAE residence visa is valid for at least six more months on the day you arrive.
- Your passport, not a travel document, is valid with several months of validity remaining.
- You are not a citizen of Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan. Nationals of those three countries apply through the Azerbaijan embassy instead, even when they live in the UAE.
At Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku you complete the visa at the self service visa kiosk or the visa counter before passport control, pay by card, and receive your electronic visa. Because this is the route most of our clients use, it is worth checking your residence visa validity before you book your flights.
Azerbaijan e visa for UAE residents (the ASAN electronic visa)
If your UAE residence visa has less than six months left, or you simply prefer to arrange everything before you fly, you can apply online for the ASAN electronic visa. This is Azerbaijan’s official electronic visa, issued by email, and it is open to nationals of a long list of eligible countries. The key points:
- It is a single entry visa.
- It is valid for 90 days from the date it is issued.
- It allows a stay of up to 30 days.
- You apply online, upload your passport details, pay by card, and receive the approved visa by email to print and carry.
You enter Azerbaijan on an electronic visa through an international airport. The same electronic visa covers short visits whether you select tourism, business or medical purpose, and each carries the same fee and the same 30 day stay. Study, work and long term stays are not covered by the electronic visa and need an embassy visa.
How much does an Azerbaijan visa cost for UAE residents?
Costs depend on which route you use. Azerbaijan charges its official fees in US dollars, so any dirham figure is an approximate conversion.
| Route | Government fee | Processing | Validity and stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa on arrival (airport) | About USD 20 to 30, card only | Issued at the airport | Single entry, 30 days |
| Electronic visa, standard | USD 20 government fee plus USD 9 service fee (USD 29 total) | Within 3 working days | Single entry, valid 90 days, 30 day stay |
| Electronic visa, urgent | Higher government fee, around USD 50 to 60 | Within 3 hours | Single entry, valid 90 days, 30 day stay |
UAE citizens pay nothing because they travel visa free. When you book through White Sky Travel, our service charge is separate, and we tell you the full amount up front before you commit. You can then split it with Tabby, Tamara or your UAE credit card.
Azerbaijan visa by nationality for UAE residents
Because the rule follows your passport, here is how the most common nationalities among UAE residents are treated. In almost every case a UAE residence visa valid for at least six months lets you use the visa on arrival route, even for nationalities that would otherwise need an embassy visa.
| Your passport | On its own | As a UAE resident (6+ month residence visa) |
|---|---|---|
| Emirati (UAE) | Visa free, 90 days | Visa free, 90 days |
| Indian | ASAN electronic visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| Pakistani | ASAN electronic visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| Filipino | ASAN electronic visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| Egyptian | Embassy visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| Bangladeshi | Embassy visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| Sri Lankan | ASAN electronic visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| British | ASAN electronic visa | Visa on arrival, 30 days |
| GCC nationals (Saudi, Kuwaiti, Bahraini, Omani) | Visa free for limited entries | Visa free or visa on arrival |
Rules can change, and there are time limited arrangements in place for several GCC nationalities during 2026 and 2027. We check the current position for your exact passport before you travel, so you never arrive with a surprise at the counter.
Documents you need for an Azerbaijan visa
For most UAE residents the paperwork is light. Have these ready:
- Your passport, valid for your trip. For the electronic visa, keep at least three months of validity beyond the visa expiry.
- Your UAE residence visa. For the visa on arrival route it must be valid for at least six more months on arrival.
- A clear digital passport photo.
- Your travel details, such as your flight and hotel booking.
- A payment card for the government fee.
For a business, study or medical visit that goes beyond a short stay, extra documents and an embassy visa may be needed. Send us a photo of your passport and residence visa on WhatsApp and we will tell you exactly what applies to you.
Arrival in Baku and staying legally
When you land at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, have your passport, your UAE residence visa, and either your printed electronic visa or the card you will use for the visa on arrival. A few things to remember:
- Electronic visa holders enter through an international airport, not a land border.
- Carry a printed copy of your electronic visa, and do not rely only on your phone.
- If you stay in Azerbaijan for 15 days or more, you register your address with the State Migration Service. Your hotel usually handles this for you.
Azerbaijan is a welcoming and safe destination, and travel insurance is a sensible addition to any trip. We can arrange your flights, hotels and travel insurance alongside your visa so everything sits on one plan.

Spread the cost of your Azerbaijan trip. With White Sky Travel and Tourism you can pay for your visa, flights and hotels together and split the total into monthly payments:
- Tabby — monthly installments up to 12 months
- Tamara — with extendable terms
- UAE credit card — monthly installments up to 12 months
Tell us your travel plan on WhatsApp and we will build a package with a payment plan that suits you.
