The Dubai Metro is the easiest way to see the city without a car. It has run since 9 September 2009, and today the Red Line and Green Line together cover 55 stations, with two more lines on the way. In 2025 the metro carried 294.7 million riders, more than any other form of public transport in Dubai, and a surprising number of the city’s best attractions sit within a short walk or a quick connection of a station.

We put this guide together for visitors who want to reach Dubai tourist places near metro stations without guesswork. For each attraction we name the exact station, the line, and what to expect when you step off the train. Station names change often in Dubai because naming rights are sold to brands, so we have listed the current name and the older name where it helps.

• Two lines run today: the Red Line (Centrepoint to Expo 2020, with a branch to Life Pharmacy) and the Green Line (e& to Creek). The Blue Line opens on 9 September 2029 and the Gold Line is planned for 2032.
• You need a Nol card to ride. Cash is not accepted at the gates. A single journey on a Silver Nol card costs AED 3 for one zone, AED 5 for two zones and AED 7.50 for three or more zones.
• Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, Museum of the Future, Dubai Frame, Mall of the Emirates and Ibn Battuta Mall all have a station named for them or within a ten minute walk.
• Old Dubai, the souks, the abra crossing and Al Fahidi are on the Green Line, mostly around Sharaf DG and Al Ghubaiba.
• Dubai Marina, JBR, Bluewaters and Palm Jumeirah need one extra hop on the Dubai Tram or the Palm Monorail, which reopened in July 2026.

Dubai Metro basics for visitors

Trains run from 5:00 am to midnight from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday, from 5:00 am to 1:00 am on Friday, and from 8:00 am to midnight on Sunday. First and last train times vary slightly by station, and the RTA extends hours during Eid, New Year and big events, so check the S’hail app if you are travelling late.

Fares are based on the number of zones you cross, not the number of stops. Dubai is split into seven fare zones, and most tourist journeys cross two or three at most. A Silver Nol card costs AED 25 and comes preloaded with AED 19 of credit, which is the best choice if you will ride more than a few times. A Red Ticket is a paper option for one or two trips and costs AED 2 plus the fare. Gold Class cabins at the front of the train cost double the standard fare and need a Gold card or Gold Red Ticket. Tap in and tap out every time, or the system charges the maximum fare.

The Red Line runs from Dubai International Airport, where Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 both have stations, along Sheikh Zayed Road to Expo City Dubai. The Green Line loops through Deira and Bur Dubai, the old heart of the city. The two lines meet at Union and BurJuman, and you can change between them without leaving the paid area.

Iconic landmarks near Dubai Metro stations

Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, Red Line)

This is the station most visitors use first. From the platform, follow the signs to the air conditioned Metro Link, a covered walkway with travelators that takes around ten to fifteen minutes and ends inside The Dubai Mall. Inside you will find the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, the ice rink, and the entrance to At the Top, the Burj Khalifa observation decks on levels 124, 125 and 148. Ticket prices vary by time slot and sunset slots sell out, so we recommend booking ahead. Step outside to the Burj Lake promenade for the Dubai Fountain, which performs in the evening at regular intervals. Business Bay station is one stop further and works well if your hotel is on that side of Downtown. For the classic skyline photo, cross the Burj Lake footbridge to बुर्ज पार्क, a grassy island beside the fountain that is a five minute walk from the Metro Link exit.

Museum of the Future (Emirates Towers station, Red Line)

The torus shaped भविष्यको संग्रहालय sits right beside Emirates Towers station, linked by a footbridge over Sheikh Zayed Road. It has drawn close to five million visitors since it opened in February 2022 and entry is by timed ticket, which usually sells out days ahead. Even if you do not go inside, the exterior is one of the best photo stops on the Red Line. Financial Centre station is next door for DIFC’s galleries and restaurants.

Dubai Frame (Max station, Red Line)

The 150 metre दुबई फ्रेम stands inside Zabeel Park, and the closest station is Max, which was called Al Jafiliya until 2021. Exit the station, walk about ten minutes into the park and head for Gate 4, where the Frame entrance is. Tickets are AED 50 वयस्कहरूको लागि र AED 20 for children aged 3 to 12, with children under three free. It opens daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and the sunset slot between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm gives you Old Dubai on one side and the Sheikh Zayed Road skyline on the other. Your ticket covers the Past Gallery, the glass floored Sky Bridge on the top and the Future Gallery.

Dubai tourist places near metro on the Marina side

Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters (Sobha Realty and DMCC stations, Red Line)

Dubai Marina station was renamed Sobha Realty and Jumeirah Lakes Towers station is now DMCC, but both still drop you at the Marina. From either station, cross to the Dubai Tram, which runs along the Marina and out to JBR. Get off at Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 or 2 for The Walk, the public beach and the pedestrian bridge to Bluewaters Island, home of Ain Dubai. The Marina itself is where most dhow dinner cruises, yacht charters, jet ski and parasailing operators are based, and the Marina Walk is a pleasant evening stroll from the tram.

Palm Jumeirah (via the tram and the Palm Monorail)

There is no metro station on the Palm, so the route is metro, then tram, then monorail. Take the Dubai Tram to the Palm Jumeirah stop, walk across to Palm Gateway station, and ride the Palm Monorail up the trunk of the island. The monorail reopened in July 2026 after six months of station maintenance, and it runs 5.5 km with stops at Al Ittihad Park, Palm Jumeirah Mall (formerly Nakheel Mall) and Atlantis Aquaventure at the far end. Tickets are AED 5 one way or AED 10 return, and the ride itself is a sightseeing attraction, with views across the fronds and out to the Gulf. The View at The Palm observation deck is inside Palm Jumeirah Mall.

Ibn Battuta Mall and Expo City Dubai (Ibn Battuta and Expo 2020 stations, Red Line)

Ibn Battuta station connects directly to Ibn Battuta Mall, whose six courts are themed on the countries the explorer visited, from Andalusia to China. It is a good rainy day or summer afternoon stop with a cinema and a large food court. Further down the line, the Route 2020 branch splits at National Paints station (the former Jebel Ali station) and ends at Expo 2020 station in Expo City Dubai, where you can visit Alif, Terra and the Al Wasl Plaza dome. Jebel Ali beaches and the resorts along the coast are a short taxi ride from Ibn Battuta rather than a walk.

Old Dubai and cultural sites on the Green Line

Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (Sharaf DG or Al Ghubaiba stations)

Sharaf DG station on the Green Line was originally called Al Fahidi, and it is still the closest stop to the historic district. Walk about ten minutes towards the Creek and you reach the restored wind tower houses of Al Fahidi, with the Coffee Museum, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and a cluster of small galleries and courtyard cafes. Al Ghubaiba station, one stop along, is nearer the Shindagha waterfront, the Al Shindagha Museum and the Heritage Village.

Al Fahidi Fort, which houses the Dubai Museum, has been closed since 2021 for a full restoration. Dubai Culture said in September 2026 that it will reopen in the coming weeks or months with six new galleries, so please check the latest status before planning a visit around it.

Souks, the abra crossing and the Gold Souk (Sharaf DG, Al Ras and Gold Souq stations)

From Sharaf DG you can walk to Meena Bazaar for fabrics, tailoring and jewellery, and on to the Textile Souk (also called the Old Souk or Bur Dubai Souk) on the Creek. At the end of the souk is the abra station, where a wooden water taxi across the Creek to Deira still costs AED 1 and gives you the best view of Old Dubai for the price of a coin. On the Deira side, Al Ras station is closest to the Spice Souk and Gold Souq station puts you a few minutes from the Gold Souk. Baniyas Square and Al Rigga stations serve the older Deira hotels and restaurants.

Entertainment and leisure near metro stations

Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai (Mall of the Emirates station, Red Line)

Mall of the Emirates station is one of the busiest on the network, with 11.2 million riders in 2025, and it links to the mall by a covered footbridge. Ski Dubai is inside, with a real snow slope, a penguin encounter, and jackets and boots included in the ticket. The station is also the closest metro stop for taxis to Madinat Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab views and Wild Wadi Waterpark.

Dubai Creek and Festival City (Creek and Al Jadaf stations, Green Line)

Creek station is the southern end of the Green Line, in Al Jaddaf beside the Creek. Nearby you will find the Jameel Arts Centre, the Al Jaddaf waterfront and the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club across the water. Dubai Festival City Mall and the IMAGINE fountain show are on the opposite bank, so it is a short taxi or bus ride rather than a walk from the station. That changes in 2029, when the Blue Line extends from Creek station through Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour towards Ras Al Khor.

Global Village, Miracle Garden and Dubai Parks

What is coming next on the Dubai Metro

The Blue Line is under construction, with 30 km of track and 14 stations linking Centrepoint on the Red Line and Creek on the Green Line to Mirdif, International City, Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour. It is scheduled to open on 9 September 2029, twenty years to the day after the first Red Line trains. The Gold Line, announced in April 2026, will be Dubai’s first fully underground line and is planned for 2032. In the meantime, expect more station renames. Onpassive station on the Red Line became Garmin in September 2026, and signage across the network is being updated until the end of November 2026.

Our tips for a metro sightseeing day

• Buy one Silver Nol card per person at the airport station on arrival. It also works on buses, trams, water buses and RTA parking meters.
• Start early at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, ride to Sharaf DG for Al Fahidi and the abra before lunch, then finish at Sobha Realty for a Marina sunset cruise.
• Avoid the 7:00 to 9:00 am and 5:30 to 7:30 pm rush hours on the Red Line if you have luggage or a stroller.
• Women and children can use the dedicated cabin, and the Gold Class cabin is a quieter option for the long ride from Expo City to Deira.
• Book timed tickets for Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future and the Dubai Frame before you travel, especially from November to March.
