Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates of the UAE, a relaxed coastal city right next to Sharjah and about 40 to 50 minutes by road from central Dubai. It is the easy choice for a calm day out: a long white sand corniche, the mangroves of Al Zorah, an 18th century fort that is now the Ajman Museum, and quiet mountain enclaves at Masfout and Al Manama. In this guide we cover the best things to do in Ajman, how to get there from Dubai, and how we can plan your visit.

Best things to do in Ajman
For a free and easy family outing, spend an evening at Al Jurf Family Park, with playgrounds, cycling and jogging tracks, sports courts and BBQ areas. For a greener, forest style escape inland, Ghabat Al Regayeb Park in Al Raqaib offers shaded walking and cycling tracks, picnic lawns and free entry.
Ajman Museum and Fort
The Ajman Museum is housed in an 18th century fort that once served as the ruler’s residence and later as the police headquarters. Inside you will find old weapons, manuscripts, pearl diving tools and reconstructed rooms that show daily life before oil. Entry carries a small fee and a visit takes about an hour, so it pairs well with a walk along the corniche. For another historic stop, the Red Fort in Ajman stands among royal farms in Al Manama, about an hour inland. Nearby, Manama Museum Park offers lawns, a play area and shaded picnic gazebos beside the White Fort.
Ajman Corniche and beach
Ajman Corniche runs along a long stretch of soft white sand facing the Arabian Gulf. It is free to visit, with a walking path, cafes, play areas and beachfront hotels. Late afternoon is the best time, when the heat drops and families come out for the sunset.
Al Zorah Nature Reserve
Al Zorah is a protected area of mangroves, lagoons and sandy beach on the edge of Ajman. The reserve is home to around 60 species of resident and migratory birds, and flamingos are often seen in the cooler months. There is a long walking track through the mangroves and a cycling loop of around 18 km around the peninsula. See our Al Zorah Natural Reserve guide for kayak prices, timings and nearby hotels. For a beachfront stay right next to the mangroves, read our guide to Al Zorah Beach Resort in Ajman.
Mangrove kayaking
Paddling through the Al Zorah mangroves is one of the most popular activities in Ajman. Guided trips use single or double kayaks on calm, shallow water, so they suit beginners and families. For more mangroves and birdlife nearby, Al Sinniyah Island in Umm Al Quwain is about 30 minutes north and makes a lovely boat trip. Close by, Mangrove Beach Umm Al Quwain is perfect for kayaking, a beach picnic or a night of camping. Morning and sunset sessions are the most comfortable.
Al Zorah Golf Club
Golfers can play an 18 hole championship course set among the mangroves. Even if you do not play, the Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club’s restaurant is a pleasant spot for breakfast or sunset views over the reserve.
Ajman Heritage District and murals
Around the old town you will find restored buildings and lanes painted with colourful murals that tell stories of Emirati culture. More murals appear on buildings across the city, so it is worth keeping your camera ready as you drive around. For timings, food and nearby hotels, see our guide to the Ajman Heritage District.
Al Marsa Ajman waterfront
Al Marsa sits on Ajman Creek with cafes, restaurants and city views. It is a relaxed place for an evening walk and dinner after a day at the beach. Read our full guide to Marsa Ajman for restaurants, opening hours and tips.
Camel racing at Al Tallah
The Al Tallah camel race track holds races in the winter season, usually on weekend mornings. Camels also train early in the morning and late afternoon, which gives visitors a chance to see this traditional sport up close. Read our full guide to Al Tallah Camel Race Course for race times, entry and nearby hotels.
Shopping in Ajman
Ajman is known for good value shopping. Options include Ajman City Centre, Ajman China Mall, Souq Saleh and many discount stores, which makes it a favourite with residents looking for bargains. For jewellery, the Ajman Gold Souq near Ajman Museum has family run shops selling 18k to 24k gold. For a fun family evening, Happy Fun Festival Land in Al Jurf has rides, games and food kiosks.
Masfout and Al Manama
Ajman also has two inland enclaves in the mountains. Masfout, close to Hatta, is surrounded by rugged peaks with hiking trails and a small museum, while Al Manama has historic forts and a family park. Both are more than an hour’s drive from Ajman city, so plan them as a separate trip, or combine Masfout with a visit to Hatta. Hikers love the trail at Al Khileban Dam. In Masfout, you can also stroll the falaj trails and date farms of Masfout Oasis. Don’t miss Bin Sultan Mosque, the oldest mosque in Ajman, built around 1815 from clay and palm fronds. Our Masfout Ajman guide covers the castle, hiking trails, hotels and directions.
