Egypt decides entry on the passport you hold, not on where you live. A UAE residence visa does not by itself grant you entry - it can change how you get your Egypt visa, but it does not replace one. Send us a photo of your passport data page and your Emirates ID before you pay anything and we will confirm your exact position the same day. We do this as part of every Egypt booking.

Points worth covering: certainty before you fly versus queuing on arrival, what happens if the portal is slow, whether the cost differs, and whether one is safer for a first-time traveller.

Apply only through the official government portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg, or let us handle it. There are many lookalike sites charging several times the official fee for the same application.

For Cairo alone, three full days is comfortable — one for the Giza plateau and Saqqara, one for the Egyptian Museum and Old Cairo, and one spare. Five days lets you add Alexandria as a day trip without rushing.

If you want Luxor and Aswan too, plan on eight to ten days. Upper Egypt is a one-hour flight or an overnight train from Cairo, not a day trip, and the temple sites there deserve two full days on their own.

Most UAE residents take the five-day option because it fits a long weekend plus two days of leave.

October to April. Daytime temperatures in Cairo sit in a range you can actually walk around in, and the desert sites are bearable.

December and January are the most comfortable and the busiest — book six to eight weeks ahead for those dates. October, March and April are the value months: still pleasant, noticeably cheaper, fewer crowds at Giza.

Avoid June to August unless you are only doing Alexandria or the Red Sea. Standing on an unshaded limestone plateau in a Cairo summer is genuinely hard going, and Upper Egypt is hotter still.

Cairo is about four hours' flying time from Dubai, with several direct services daily. Egypt runs one to two hours behind UAE time depending on the season, so there is no jet lag to speak of. You can fly out on a Thursday evening and be at the Pyramids on Friday morning.

Egypt is more conservative than Dubai in public and more relaxed in resorts. Loose and covered is the safe default.

Women: long trousers or a mid-calf skirt with sleeves that cover the shoulders will keep you comfortable everywhere. Shorts are uncommon in Cairo outside beach resorts and will draw attention. Carry a scarf — you will need it at mosques and it is useful against sun and dust at Giza.

Men: long trousers at mosques and churches. Shorts are fine at resorts, less so in the city.

Everyone: closed walking shoes with a proper sole. The Giza plateau is sand, gravel and broken limestone, not paving, and sandals are a mistake. Layers help — Cairo mornings in winter are cool and afternoons are warm.

Colours make no difference at all, despite what you may read. Jeans are fine, just hot in the afternoon.

Drones are the big one. Bringing a drone into Egypt without prior authorisation risks confiscation at the airport, and flying one near archaeological sites is prohibited. If you are planning aerial photography, tell us before you book. Standard restrictions on narcotics, weapons and counterfeit goods apply as they would anywhere.

They are very different trips. Egypt is ancient-monument travel — pyramids, temples, museums, a lot of standing in the sun looking at things four thousand years old. Morocco is medinas, mountains, food and colour, with more variety of landscape and less monumental history.

For a first long-weekend trip from Dubai, Egypt is the easier sell: it is four hours away versus around eight, the headline sights are concentrated around one city, and the visa is usually simpler.

Whoever you use, check three things. First, whether the visa is genuinely handled for your passport nationality or you are just handed a link. Second, whether entry tickets to Giza and the Egyptian Museum are included or added on the day. Third, whether the guide is a licensed Egyptologist or a driver with a commentary — it is the single biggest difference in how much you get out of the Egyptian Museum.
