Fuerte Rojo de Ajman: Historia, ubicación y consejos para visitantes.

The Red Fort in Ajman is a historic royal fort in Al Manama, an inland enclave of Ajman at the foot of the Hajar Mountains, about an hour by car from Ajman city. It was built between 1910 and 1928 during the rule of Sheikh Humaid bin Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi, served as a residence for the ruling family, and takes its name from the red plaster on its outer walls. Today it stands among royal farms and palm groves, with oryx and gazelles grazing in front. It is often confused with Ajman Fort, the coral stone fort in Ajman city that now houses Ajman Museum.

History of the Red Fort in Ajman

The Red Fort was built in the early twentieth century, between 1910 and 1928, while Sheikh Humaid bin Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi ruled Ajman. Al Manama was the emirate’s farming heartland, and a fort here protected the water wells, date palms and fields that fed Ajman after the decline of pearling.

De acuerdo con Visit Ajman, the official tourism site, the fort originally had four rooms and two towers. A preservation project in the 1980s added a third tower, and later restoration gave the walls the reddish stone look you see today. Traditional builders used sandalwood for the beams and roof supports, and a drinking water well still stands close to the building.
