What Is Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi?

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is a world class science museum covering 35,000 square metres. The building was designed by the Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo, and its shape is inspired by natural rock formations shaped by wind and time.

The museum is part of the Saadiyat Cultural District, right next to teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and across from the Casa de la familia abrahámica. It is also a research centre, and its collection is set to grow to millions of specimens over the coming years, making it a key resource for science and education in the Middle East.

Inside, you follow the story of the universe, the Earth and life in a clear timeline. You will see real fossils, meteorites, skeletons and immersive displays that work well for children, adults and anyone curious about nature.

What to See Inside: The Six Main Galleries

The galleries follow a clear timeline, so it is best to start at the beginning and walk through in order.

La historia de la Tierra

Travel from the Big Bang to the birth of our Solar System and the first signs of life. A highlight is a 1.3 kg fragment of the Murchison meteorite, a rare space rock that contains material around 7 billion years old, older than the Sun itself.

El mundo en evolución

Step back into the Age of Dinosaurs. The star is Stan, an 11.7 metre long Tyrannosaurus rex and one of the best preserved and most studied T. rex fossils in the world.

El mundo perdido de Abu Dhabi

See what Abu Dhabi looked like around 7 million years ago, when the region was a green savannah full of wildlife. Fossils found across the UAE, including ancient elephants, tell this hidden chapter of local history.

Human Story

Follow human origins, migration and adaptation, from early life in Africa to people settling on every continent.

Nuestro Mundo

Celebrate the variety of life on Earth with a journey through ecosystems from the frozen Arctic to deserts and the deep ocean.

Resilient Planet

Discover how nature adapts to change and how people can help build a more sustainable future.

Do not miss the herd of long necked sauropod dinosaurs in the welcome atrium. Scan the QR code under each one with Snapchat to watch them come to life on your phone. In the Immersive Theatre, a short film takes you from the birth of the universe to the wonders of our living planet.
