Thailand Tourist Visa for UAE Residents
Thailand is one of the most popular holiday destinations for UAE residents. Every year tens of thousands of travellers from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and across the Emirates head to Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Krabi for beaches, temples, street food and tropical escapes. Whether you need a visa depends on your passport nationality, not your UAE residence. This page explains the new rules that take effect on 15 September 2026, what they mean for each nationality, and how we help you apply.

Thailand has replaced its 60 day visa free scheme โ Royal Gazette published 31 August 2026
Thailand has cancelled the 60 day visa free scheme that covered 93 countries since July 2024 and replaced it with a tiered system built on a “one country, one entry category” principle. On 31 August 2026 the Royal Thai Government Gazette published four Ministry of Interior announcements (Volume 143, Special Issue 207) that put the new framework into law. The announcements take effect 15 days after publication, which means 15 September 2026.
What the new framework does:
- 60 countries and territories get a 30 day visa exemption for tourism only, including all 27 EU member states, India and the Maldives. UAE nationals stay on this list but the free stay drops from 60 to 30 days.
- 2 countries (Mauritius and Seychelles) get a new 15 day visa exemption.
- 3 countries only (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Serbia) get Visa on Arrival. The old Visa on Arrival list of 31 countries is cut.
- Every other nationality must apply for a Thai e-Visa in advance at thaievisa.go.th.

Visa categories from 15 September 2026
The following is the framework published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026 and in force from 15 September 2026. Entries made on or before 14 September 2026 are still governed by the outgoing 60 day scheme.
🛂 30 day visa exemption โ 60 countries & territories
No visa required on arrival for tourism. Stay up to 30 days, extendable once by 30 days at a Thai immigration office. UAE nationals (Emirati passport) remain on this list. India and the Maldives are included, and all 27 EU member states are aligned on the same terms.
The EU chip covers all 27 members (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden). Thailand’s official total for this category is 60 countries and territories, confirmed in the Royal Gazette. For the 30 day exemption, land or sea border entries are generally capped at twice per calendar year, except for nationals of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore; arrivals by air are not capped. Always confirm your specific passport with the Thai MFA before travelling.
🌴 15 day visa exemption โ 2 countries
New visa exemption tier, tourism only. Both were previously on the 60 day scheme.
🟡 Visa on Arrival โ 3 countries only ยท 15 days ยท 2,000 THB
The Visa on Arrival list is cut from 31 countries to 3. Applied at designated immigration checkpoints on arrival, single entry only. India is no longer here โ it stays visa free on the 30 day exemption.
🤝 Bilateral visa exemption agreements โ unchanged
These reciprocal arrangements between Thailand and specific countries sit outside the exemption overhaul and remain in place. Nationals of China, Hong Kong, Macau, Russia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mongolia and Vietnam continue to enter under their own bilateral terms rather than the new 30 day list, so they are not affected by the removals below.

Visa types for UAE residents
Thailand offers several visa categories depending on the purpose and length of your stay. Choosing the right one before you apply is critical, because applying under the wrong category is a common cause of rejection, and the Thai e-Visa fee is non refundable once submitted.
Tourist visa (TR)
The most common option for leisure, sightseeing or family travel. It allows a stay of up to 60 days, extendable by 30 days at a local immigration office, and is single entry by default. This is the route to choose when you want longer than the 30 day visa exemption allows. Since January 2025, applications are submitted fully online at thaievisa.go.th. Once approved, the e-Visa is emailed to you, and you print a hard copy to present at check in and to Thai immigration on arrival.
Business visa (Non Immigrant B)
Now required for any business travel, because the visa exemption is limited to tourism. It suits meetings, conferences, training or professional activities. In addition to the standard documents it requires an invitation letter from a registered Thai company and a sponsor letter from your UAE employer, and sometimes a salary certificate. It allows up to 90 days and may be extendable inside Thailand subject to approval. Business visa fees differ from the tourist rate, and we confirm the exact cost based on your nationality.
Transit visa
Needed if you leave the airport during a long layover. Travellers who remain airside and do not clear immigration generally do not need one. Airport transit without a visa is available only for specific nationalities, so verify your eligibility first. All transit applications go through the e-Visa portal.
Multiple entry tourist visa (METV)
Best for frequent travellers. Valid for 6 months from issue, with unlimited entries and up to 60 days per entry. It needs a slightly fuller document set and is submitted through the same Thai e-Visa online portal. Fees are higher than single entry but offer better value for regular visitors.
Documents required
Preparing the correct documents is the most important step. Incomplete paperwork is a top reason for rejection, and because the e-Visa fee is non refundable, a rejected application means paying again. All documents are uploaded digitally through the portal.
- Passport valid at least 6 months from your date of entry into Thailand
- Emirates ID or valid UAE residence visa as proof you are currently in the UAE
- Recent passport size photo meeting the portal’s specifications
- Confirmed round trip flight ticket
- Confirmed hotel booking for the full stay
- Bank statement covering the last 3 months, where required for your nationality
- NOC or employment letter, and a salary certificate for employed applicants
Your Emirates ID must be valid at the time of application. Applications from residents who cannot provide a valid Emirates ID or UAE residence visa are rejected, so check validity before you start. Bank statement requirements vary by nationality, so message us on WhatsApp and we confirm exactly what your passport needs.
Thailand visa fees and processing time
Our processing cost for a Thailand tourist visa is AED 650. This covers document review, e-Visa application assistance and full support through approval. The official government visa fee is paid separately and directly on the Thai e-Visa portal at the time of submission, and it varies by nationality and visa type. As a guide, a single entry tourist visa is currently around USD 40 (roughly AED 150), while a multiple entry tourist visa is higher. We confirm the exact current amount for your case before you apply.
All e-Visa fees paid on the official portal are non refundable and non transferable. If an application is rejected for incomplete or incorrect documents, the fee is not returned, which is exactly why we review everything before submission.
Official processing is up to 3 to 10 working days from submission and payment, excluding the submission date. Times vary with application volume and document accuracy. There is no express service for Thailand e-Visas from the UAE, so apply at least 3 to 4 weeks before travel, especially in December, January and summer. The embassy may email you for extra documents, so monitor your inbox throughout.
VFS Global no longer handles Thailand visas from the UAE. Since January 2025 everything is done online at thaievisa.go.th, and applications must be submitted while you are physically in the UAE. Applications from outside the UAE are automatically rejected.
For UAE residents booking on behalf of family or friends, you can spread the cost with Tabby over up to 12 months, Tamara with extendable terms, or a UAE credit card in monthly instalments up to 12 months. All other applicants receive a secure online payment link.
What is the TDAC and do UAE residents need it?
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is mandatory for every foreign national entering Thailand, regardless of nationality or visa type. It replaced the paper TM6 arrival card and must be completed online at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before arrival. On completion you receive a QR code to show the immigration officer. It is free and separate from your e-Visa. We advise clients to complete both the visa and the TDAC well before departure to keep entry smooth.
Thailand entry requirements
At the port of entry, the immigration officer reviews your documents before stamping your passport. Present your valid passport, your printed e-Visa confirmation (if applicable), your completed TDAC QR code, your confirmed return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. Remember that visa free entry is for tourism only, so do not describe a business purpose at the counter if you are travelling on the exemption.
Thai immigration may request proof of funds on arrival. For visa exempt and Visa on Arrival entry the guideline is 10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family. For tourist visa holders the guideline is higher, at 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family (children under 12 are exempt from this requirement). Overstaying carries serious consequences including daily fines, detention, deportation and possible re entry bans, so always note the permitted stay stamped in your passport and extend at an immigration office before it expires if needed.
Embassy and consulate
The Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi processes Thai visas for UAE residents through the e-Visa portal, and the Royal Thai Consulate General in Dubai serves Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Since January 2025 all applications from every emirate go through the same portal at thaievisa.go.th. The embassy communicates through your registered email and may request additional documents or, in specific cases, an interview.
We answer Thai e-Visa questions 7 days a week, 8 AM to 8 PM, with 24/7 WhatsApp support on +971 42 202 133 or +971 52 292 1011.

FAQs โ Thailand visa for UAE residents
Do UAE residents need a visa for Thailand?
It depends on your passport nationality, not your UAE residence. UAE nationals (Emirati passport) are visa free. From 15 September 2026 many nationalities that were exempt under the old 60 day scheme move to a shorter 30 day stay, a 15 day stay, Visa on Arrival, or are removed entirely and need a Thai e-Visa in advance. We confirm your category before you book.
How long can UAE nationals stay in Thailand visa free now?
From 15 September 2026 the visa free stay is 30 days, extendable once by 30 days at a Thai immigration office. If you enter Thailand on or before 14 September 2026 you still receive the old 60 day stay for that trip.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
No. India is on the 30 day visa exemption list, so Indian passport holders can enter Thailand for tourism without a visa and stay up to 30 days from 15 September 2026. Earlier draft plans had proposed a Visa on Arrival for India, but the final Royal Gazette rules keep India visa free.
I hold a Sri Lankan passport. Can I still enter Thailand visa free?
No. Sri Lanka is one of the 21 nationalities removed from visa free entry. For trips from 15 September 2026, Sri Lankan passport holders must apply for a Thai e-Visa in advance at thaievisa.go.th. We complete the application for you.
Can I still get 60 days if I travel in the next few days?
Yes, if your date of entry into Thailand is on or before 14 September 2026 and your nationality was on the old exemption list. The permitted stay is set by the date you enter, not the date you book or fly out.
How do I apply for a Thailand visa from the UAE?
Since 1 January 2025 all applications are submitted online at thaievisa.go.th. VFS Global and in person applications at the embassy or consulate are no longer accepted. You apply online, pay the fee on the portal, and receive your approved e-Visa by email. We can manage the whole process for you.
What is the Thailand visa fee for UAE residents?
Our processing assistance is AED 650. The official government fee is paid separately on the portal and varies by nationality and visa type (a single entry tourist visa is currently around USD 40, roughly AED 150). All portal fees are non refundable. UAE residents booking for family or friends can pay our service with Tabby, Tamara or a UAE credit card in monthly options up to 12 months; all other applicants receive a secure online payment link.
Can I apply while outside the UAE?
No. Applications submitted from Thailand or any country outside the UAE are automatically rejected. You must apply while physically in the UAE, so plan your timeline accordingly.
Can I get a multiple entry Thailand visa from the UAE?
Yes. The multiple entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months from issue and allows multiple entries of up to 60 days each. It is best for frequent travellers and is applied for through the same Thai e-Visa online portal at thaievisa.go.th.
What happens if my application is rejected?
The portal fee is non refundable, so you must submit a new application and pay again. Common causes are incomplete documents, non compliant photos, incorrect information, an expired Emirates ID, and applying from outside the UAE. We review all documents before submission to reduce this risk.
Do I need to complete the TDAC before travelling?
Yes. The TDAC is mandatory for all foreign nationals, regardless of visa type. It replaced the paper TM6 card and must be completed online at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before arrival. You receive a QR code to present on arrival. It is free and separate from your e-Visa.
