History of the Najd Al Meqsar village

The village behind Najd Al Meqsar by Sharjah Collection sits at the head of Wadi Wishi (also called Wadi Shie), about 220 metres above sea level, looking down on Khorfakkan and the Al Rafisah Dam. Families of the Al Hanateeb tribe settled here near a natural water source that fed the traditional falaj irrigation channels, and the village grew around farms, a small mosque, a ghaf tree and the Al Meqsar Fort, which is believed to be around 300 years old.

• A rock near the village carries the inscription “Kharab Al Rafisah 1288 Hijri”, one of many links to the area’s past.
• Rock art showing camels and horses in the wider Wadi Wishi area dates back to around 2000 BC.
• The village was later abandoned, and Shurooq (the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority) restored it with the Sharjah Infrastructure Development Authority, opening the first phase on a site of 17,210 square metres.
• A second phase has been planned with more units overlooking the valleys, shared spaces and access to the Wadi Wishi archaeological site.

The rooms at Najd Al Meqsar by Sharjah Collection are inside seven traditional Kareen houses built from stone and silt with wooden beams and thatched roofs. The restoration kept the original character while adding the comforts you expect from a boutique hotel.

How to get to Najd Al Meqsar by Sharjah Collection

Najd Al Meqsar by Sharjah Collection is located in Wadi Wshee, Khorfakkan, Sharjah, UAE. From Dubai or Sharjah city, drive along the Sharjah Khorfakkan Road through the mountain tunnels, which takes about 80 minutes from Dubai International Airport. From Fujairah International Airport it is about 35 minutes by car. A 4×4 is not needed, and there is free parking with around 50 spaces. The hotel offers airport transfers for a fee with advance notice, or you can contact White Sky to book a private transfer.

The best time to visit Najd Al Meqsar by Sharjah Collection is from October to April, when the mountain air is cool enough for hiking, terrace dining and stargazing. Summer days are very hot, so if you visit between June and September, plan walks for early morning or after sunset.
